Winner of the Birth Alarm Contest 2025
Last year we once again received many special entries from breeders who were able to be present in time for the birth of their foal thanks to Birth Alarm. Photos, videos and personal stories gave a wonderful insight into these special moments.
After a draw among all valid entries, one winner emerged:
🎉 Congratulations, Margreet Nauta!
Margreet sent us not only beautiful photos, but also a special story about two births where Birth Alarm made the difference at exactly the right time.
Her mare Donatella was due June 12, but remained pregnant longer than expected. After the first changes became visible on June 25, the Birth Alarm was put on. On June 28, the first harp pups finally appeared and the first signs of the impending birth came into view.
Around 10:40 p.m., Margreet decided to lie down for a while. Just twelve minutes later, the Birth Alarm went off!
When she got to the mare, the foal’s front legs were already visible. However, the nose appeared to be pressed against the piece of skin between vulva and anus. By being immediately present, Margreet was able to help free the nose, after which the head neatly followed and the large colt was born safely.
“Without the Birth Alarm, this could have gone wrong. So for me, never again without it.”
The foal, Paxton MB, was born healthy on June 28, 2025, and grew to become National Champion Eventing Foals at the NRPS National Championships.
But it didn’t stop there.
Her second mare, Happines, was also carrying over time. On June 30, Margreet happened to be checking on her mare when she saw that the foal’s legs were already visible. Shortly thereafter, the mare lay down and the Birth Alarm neatly reported the start of the birth. This colt, Vincandro, was also born healthy.
We would like to thank Margreet very much for sharing her story and photos. It shows exactly why Birth Alarm has been helping breeders for over 30 years to be on time at one of the most important moments of the year.
